CROWD or CROSS? You can’t have both!

The crowds loved Jesus, initially.Then they realised he wasn’t quite what they expected, didn’t offer quite what they wanted, and challenged them in ways they weren’t comfortable with setting them against the world around them.And so essentially the same crowd turned on him soon after. Jesus is probably the best-known person throughout history. But does not win the popularity contest {even though he should}

Jesus was radical and countercultural, and the world rejected him {it still does} As you align yourself with Jesus Christ, the world will reject you too.

Being a Christian is not a popularity contest. Denying yourself, picking up your cross and following Jesus (Mtt 16:24-26) will likely win you fewer friends.

But it’s not about them. And it’s not about you and me either.

It’s about Jesus the way, the truth and the life.

  • Does it matter to you what people think of your being a Christian? If so, why?

  • Ever lost a friend due to your faith, or been shelved, ignored, or cast aside? (1 Peter 4:12-19)

  • It is OK to mourn a loss, and it is not wrong to be affected by being rejected, but be strengthened in remembering it’s not about us, it’s all about him. He will never leave you. And he is enough.

Shalom Si
