Nicene Creed, a  study in 36 parts

The following information links to the series of sermons we are engaging with during 2018.  A journey in discovering and deepening our faith using the Nicene Creed to guide us. Purpose - digging into the basic tenants of our faith for deeper consideration, but with an emphasis on the enhancement of understanding; in order to share and explain to others (witness).

This course of studies is to give a theme for peaching and our (Greenways Benefice) House Groups during 2018. We, therefore, will be all following the same themes; on a Sunday in church, and in the weekday meetings in our small groups. The hope is that all will become more confident in our basic beliefs, as Christians, which will lead to an enhanced ability to share the love of Jesus and the possibility for all, of His salvation gift. The pattern of each study is a little different; but mainly with bible passages that should get discussions going on the theme set, questions to kick-start thought and discussion, some video links in some studies, that (hopefully are thought-provoking in a different way), and finishing with suggested ways to move into prayer. As an ice-breaker to each study, we begin with a suggested review of the previous set subject.

Each study should provide more than enough material to satisfy all the time expected to be necessary to fill each gathering. In fact, it will be found that it may be difficult to complete all the supplied material. So, house group leaders may well have to be selective. The object is for the members to set the pace of learning, discussion and debate. Give people time to digest the material, particularly after questions are put to them. Remember ‘Pose, Pause and Pounce’, remains a good way to proceed. The whole object is for the attendees to develop their understanding and confidence; therefore each group will work at its own pace, based on their required time to come to a consensus on each part of the creed.

Please encourage participants to engage with the material individually as well as in groups, outside of gatherings. Some of the material and quotes used have been supplied (with permission) by Derek L Williams, who used to be an associate minister in the old North Chippenham Group of Churches during the 1980’s. He is a Christian writer; if you wish to check his work out, here is a link to his BlogSpot.

How to use the Creed Each line of the Creed links to a pdf document, which can be download and used for church services, personal reflection and small groups, for that particular week. (See above for downloading the calendar).
